Decorah rolls past North Iowa

It was senior recognition night for the Decorah bowling teams Friday as the Vikings hosted North Iowa at Oneota Lanes. Both the varsity girls and boys were victorious.

In the varsity girls’ match, Decorah won 2,349 to 1,780 to improve their record to 6-3. Baker scores were 160, 136, 174, 148 and 139.

Lexie Hauber posted scores of 179 and 195, while Grace Gerleman produced games of 188 and 167. Paige Lange had scores of 151 and 179. Other scores were Annika Lensch (146, 125), Rebecca Bruening (117, 146) and Lily Iverson (126, 126).

“We are still struggling on spares and need more strikes, but we battle every shot and game,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “The girls’ attitudes are great.”

The JV girls remain undefeated at 9-0, scoring a 2,250. Leading the way were Katelyn Christensen (403) and Hannah Schnitzler (301).

The varsity boys won by a score of 2,842 to 1,359 to move to 8-1 on the season. Baker scores were 181, 235, 180, 202 and 183. Karter Einck had a solid performance in the baker games, going 10-for-10 with eight strikes.

Leading the way was Luke Iverson (235, 200) and Brody Anfinson (162, 245). Others competing on the varsity squad were Jackson Rollins (188, 152), Tyler Thompson (142, 160), Karter Einck (156, 201) and Daniel Skrade (172, 150).

Nolan Jostand (396), Eliot Kleckner (391) and Tyler Shedinger (340) led the junior varsity to a win with a 2,727 total to move to 9-0. 

Due to inclement weather, Saturday’s team conference tournament was postponed without a make-up date announced as of press time. Decorah’s next scheduled competition is Saturday, Feb. 13, in the conference individual tournament at Bowlaway Lanes in New Hampton. The boys’ tournament will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the girls at 2 p.m.
