Working their way toward the postseason, the Decorah and South Winn girls’ wrestling teams competed twice to finish off the regular season last weekend. First the Vikes hosted a double dual with Charles City and the Warriors, then the two squads traveled to Mason City for the final tournament of the regular season.
In Decorah
Thursday, the Vikings put on a spectacular show defeating Charles City 40-28 and South Winn 55-6, finishing the season with a 12-2 dual record.
Four Vikes picked up falls in the dual against the Comets, while three won by decision and one received a forfeit. Pinning their opponents were No. 3 Ana Simon (145), Annaleissa Arnold (170), No. 1 Naomi Simon (190) and No. 5 Kamryn Steines (235). Amelia Wadsworth won by a 13-3 major decision at 140 pounds. Winning by 6-3 decisions were seventh-ranked Chloe Sheffield (100) and Ellie Adams (115). At 135 pounds, No. 7 McKenzie Tollefson received a forfeit.
Competing against a much smaller South Winn squad, only five matches took place with the Vikes winning four of them. At 130 pounds Kaitlyn Bjork earned a 9-1 major decision over Warrior sophomore Abby Wagner. South Winn’s Maddy Jansen fell by a 7-3 decision at 135 pounds to Tollefson. Winning for the Warriors at 125 pounds was eighth-ranked Kaydn Meyer with a fall in 1:53 over Stella Grinna. Decorah received six forfeits.
