Decorah swings into second at Charles City

The Decorah boys’ golf team utilized balanced scoring to finish second in a quad meet at Charles City Friday. As area teams look to make up lost competitions due to weather, Waverly-Shell Rock and New Hampton joined the competition.

The Decorah boys’ golf team utilized balanced scoring to finish second in a quad meet at Charles City Friday. As area teams look to make up lost competitions due to weather, Waverly-Shell Rock and New Hampton joined the competition.
Firing a 327, the Go-Hawks won the 18-hole meet. The Vikings carved out a team score of 368, with Charles City close behind with a 373. New Hampton finished with a 375. Medalist of the meet was Hogan Hanson of Waverly-Shell Rock with a 72 on the par 74 course.
Ben Bockman fashioned an 86 on the course to lead Decorah, while Brody Hanson toured the course with a 90. Also counting for the Vikes were Ethan Holthaus with a 94 and Jackson Knoke with a 98. Other varsity linksters included Lane Rolfs (99) and Jon Egan (103).
In nine-hole junior varsity action it was the Go-Hawks winning with a 191, followed by the Comets’ 219. New Hampton fired a 225, while Decorah carded a 233.
Carter Dhly bested the Viking field with a 57, followed by Shane Treangen’s 58. The trio of Aaron Busta, Hunter Quandahl and Lincoln Robinson all fired 59s.
Monday, Decorah competed in a tournament at Lake City, Minn. Thursday, May 5, the Vikings will host Caledonia at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club.
