Decorah takes care of Indians

In it only game of the week, the Decorah girls’ basketball team (12-6, 7-1 NEIC) controlled the tempo from start to finish Friday, winning 58-35 over Waukon (11-8, 5-4 NEIC) at home.

In it only game of the week, the Decorah girls’ basketball team (12-6, 7-1 NEIC) controlled the tempo from start to finish Friday, winning 58-35 over Waukon (11-8, 5-4 NEIC) at home.
The Vikings found the Indians sitting on their heels, causing turnover after turnover to lead 12-0 in the first two minutes. By the end of the opening period, Decorah led 16-10. The Viking defense dialed in further in the second frame, keeping Waukon off the board until the final minute. At halftime, Decorah had a 27-12 advantage. The Vikes remained focused through the second half, outscoring Waukon 29-23 for the victory.
Draining 26 points and leading all scorers was Decorah junior Bryar Duwer. Yazmeen Whitsitt knocked down 15 points, while Haley Gossman produced eight. 
Monday, the Decorah girls were at Charles City for a NEIC contest, a complete game recap and statistics will be published in the Feb. 10 Public Opinion. The Vikes wrap up the regular season at Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.
