While its still fairly early in the 2021 season, the Decorah baseball team (7-2, 4-0 NEIC) continues to pound the ball well and pickup wins, most recently defeating Charles City (5-4, 5-1 NEIC) at home Tuesday night, 9-3.
“Up and down the offensive lineup tonight we had a number of great at bats from everyone on the team. This group is doing a really nice job of getting better every day offensively,” said Coach Adam Riley. “We are really happy with the end result of a quality win against an undefeated conference opponent.”
Starting on the mound, senior Cael Luzum limited the number of Comets who reached base, giving up one hit while striking out another 10 batters to earn the win. Pitching in relief were Kyle Renken and Gunnar Steine.
The Vikes scored multiple runs in the first, second, third and fifth frames to stay out front with a total of 12 hits. Briggs Duwe was just a home run short of hitting the cycle and drove in three runs. Tyler Thompson and Keenan Tyler also had multi-hit games, while Luzum had a double and a pair of stolen bases.
