After dropping an extra-inning contest to Independence Wednesday, the Vikings tromped over Clear Lake and Waukon Thursday and Friday. The Decorah baseball team is now 15-8 overall and 14-4 in the conference.

Extra inning loss
Decorah fought back against Independence (17-7) throughout Wednesday’s home contest, falling in the eighth inning 9-5.
The Vikes answered the Mustangs’ first inning tally when Noah Storts scored on a Sam Kleiner single. Independence added a solo homer in the third and two more runs in the fourth. Then it was time for Decorah to get to work putting the ball in play. A single by Jacob Pipho opened the door for the Vikes, later scoring on a Kaden Alstad sac fly. Brady Stille and Ben Wymer also scored in the third on a double by Keenan Tyler to tie the score 4-4.
A single run in the seventh by Independence put the pressure on Decorah to do the same which came as the Vikes loaded the bases on a Brody Young single and walks issued to Pipho and Stille. With two outs, Young later scored the tying run when Ethan Holthaus was hit by a pitch.
Independence once again responded in the eighth, scoring four runs on three singles and a three-run homer, making it hard for Decorah to come back.
Fisher Tweten stood on the mound for the final inning to suffer the loss after Stille threw for the first six frames. Also climbing the hill for Decorah was Holthaus and Dane Frieden.
Decorah had nine hits in the contest with Tyler having a double for two RBI. Storts had two singles, as did Pipho.
