Duwe breaks all-time girls’ scoring record

By Becky Walz,

Stepping out of conference play, the Class 4A No. 6 Decorah girls’ basketball team extended its win streak to eight Tuesday night. The Vikes (15-2, 7-0 NEIC) traveled to Denver (6-11) and brought home a 71-54 victory. In addition, senior Bryar Duwe topped the girls’ basketball all-time scoring record of 1,310 points.
Decorah opened the night with a 25-14 lead first quarter advantage. In the second period, the Cyclones picked up some offensive momentum and narrowed the Vikes’ lead to 38-32 at the break. The Red and Blue did just enough in the second half to maintain their lead, outscoring the home team 13-10 in the third to carry a 51-42 lead into the final period. Both squads were on fire in the fourth, nearly matching point-for-point, but Decorah’s lead lifted the Vikings over Denver in the end.
