Several records fell Friday night as the Decorah girls’ basketball team (10-6, 5-1 NEIC) defeated New Hampton on the road. The Lady Vikes added another tally to the win column Saturday afternoon with a win over Charles City.
History made
It was go time from the tip-off the final buzzer as Decorah topped New Hampton (5-11, 1-7 NEIC) Friday night 70-46, with several records broken by junior Bryar Duwe.
The Vikes kicked off the night with a 20-11 lead after the first period and saw the Chickasaws stay within nine at the break, 32-23. While New Hampton managed to dip in the advantage in the third, the strong 23-point fourth by Decorah sealed the victory.
Duwe scored half of the Vikes’ points with 35, surpassing the previous single-game record of 35. Additionally, the junior knocked down six treys in the game to beat the previous record of five. Yazmeen Whitsitt was also an offense force with 19 points.

Rescheduled event
Back in action less than 24 hours later, the Vikings hosted Charles City (0-14, 0-4 NEIC), shooting down the Comets, 77-16.
By the end of the opening quarter, Decorah had built a 27-7 cushion and only gave up one point in the second period to lead 48-8 at half. The Vikes continued to pad their lead in the second half to secure the easy victory.
Leading the way offensively once again was Duwe with 22 points and Whitsitt with 19. Also in double digits was Haley Gossman with 15.

Closing in on postseason
Decorah will have just one game this week, hosting Waukon, Friday, Feb. 4, at 6:45 p.m.
