Fourth-quarter surge sends Decorah past Comets

Sitting atop the NEIC standings, the Decorah boys’ basketball team (11-4, 8-2 NEIC) put another tally in the win column Tuesday over Charles City (6-8, 3-4 NEIC) on the road 69-56.

The Viking offense was on fire in the first quarter, taking a 26-14 advantage. The points kept piling up in the second period as Decorah strolled into the locker room 45-30 at the break. The lid slammed shut on the basket in the third period for the Vikings as the Comets outscored the visitors, 16-3, narrowing Decorah’s advantage to 48-46. Decorah managed to get back on track in the final eight minutes to claim the win.

Leading the way with 25 points apiece were Charlie Robinson and Joe Bockman.
