By Becky Walz,
Hitting the road Tuesday night, the Decorah boys’ basketball team (13-7) visited Cedar Rapids Washington (10-7) for a non-conference match-up. Despite keeping it close for three quarters, the final period was too much for the Vikes as they dropped the contest, 74-62.
After the first eight minutes, Decorah was very much in the game as the Warriors led 11-9. At halftime, the Vikes had not made up the difference and were left trailing, 26-24. Dead even again in the third with 17 points for the visitors and Washington, the score sat at 43-41 in favor of the home team. Eight minutes remaining, the Vikes ripped off 20 points; however, the Warriors’ offense was on fire, pulling out 31 points in the final period to defeat Decorah.
Joe Bockman was the man of the game, outscoring all players with 26 points. Also in double digits with 14 points was Charlie Robinson, while Trey McCain added nine. On the board with six points was Jacob Pipho as Briggs Duwe connected for four. Carson Wemark provided two.
Stepping out of the conference, Decorah will play at Monona tonight (Thursday, Feb. 11) against the MFL MarMac Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. The NEIC title will come down to one final contest Tuesday, Feb. 16, between Decorah and Crestwood in Cresco at 7:30 p.m.
