Hanson returns two punts, kick-off for TDs

By Becky Walz,

The Turkey Valley football team (6-0, 4-0) took advantage of every opportunity they were given to quickly overtake Clarksville (1-5, 0-4) Friday to earn a 62-8 homecoming victory.
“We played well throughout the game and our varsity players saw very little playing time in the second half,” said Coach Mark Scott. “We scored our last 32 points and ran only two offensive plays in that span.”

Overpowering the Indians
With on and off showers throughout the game, the Trojans did not seem phased as they took advantage of Clarksville miscues for short fields. The Trojan scoring opened with three TDs in the first quarter on a Marcus Herold 2-yard run, a Carson Busta 14-yard run and a Noah Hanson 10-yard carry.
In the second frame, Busta found the end zone again. With the TV defense keeping Clarksville from getting first downs, Noah Hanson took back-to-back punts to the house in the second. A fumble recovery by Burke Busta on the 9-yard line, set up another short field as he went on to score just before halftime for a 45-0 lead.
Hanson topped off the scoring with a 71-yard kick-off return to open the second half and end the TV scoring.

Quick look
Oliver Schmitt averaged 8.8 yards per carry for the night with nine touches of the pigskin for 79 yards. C. Busta added 77 yards on the ground with seven carries. With 65 yards was Herold, while Hanson added 64. The lone pass of the game was caught by Garrett Kurtenbach who partially blocked a punt in the first half as well.
Troy Schmitt had four solo tackles, including two tackles for a loss. On the charts with three solo stops apiece were C. Busta and Chase Hayek.
Booting the pigskin seven times on kick-offs with five touchbacks and 303 yards was Treyton Hulbert. Mauricio Tinajero also kicked off once for a touchback.
