Happy homecoming; Trojans blow past Janesville

By Becky Walz,

It was the quite an offensive show for the Turkey Valley football team (3-1, 2-0) Friday night for homecoming as the Trojans defeated Janesville (1-5, 0-3), 61-8.
“This was a good homecoming win as the players executed well in all phases of the game. Playing the major portion of the first half on our side of the field allowed us to score quickly. The defense was aggressive and ran to the ball very well. We ran 23 offensive plays in the first half to score 55 points. It was a good game to allow the younger players to play on Homecoming night,” said Coach Mark Scott.

All those scores
The Trojans pounced for 55 points and kept the Wildcats on their own side of the field for most of the first half. It all started when Homecoming King Noah Hanson scored on an 11-yard rush. With his own named called for the two-point rush, the Trojans led 8-0. Oliver Schmitt soon added a 6-yard scamper to the end zone and a pass from Hanson to Carson Busta made it 16-0. Then it was Chase Hayek getting his name called for a 11-yard reception that he took over the goal line for an 24-0 lead. Hanson broke away from the Wildcat defense to rumble 47 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the game and a 32-0 advantage. The quarter ended with Carson Busta carrying the pigskin 40-yards for the score.
The Red and White added two more scores in the second quarter as O. Schmitt made his way through traffic from three yards out. Burke Busta wrapped up the Trojan first-half scoring on a 15-yard gallop with Maurcio Tinajero kicking the PAT.
Janesville marched their way down the field into Trojan territory in the third for its lone score of the game as Turkey Valley sent their reserves onto the field. Freshman JD Kruse put his name in the scorebook in the fourth period on a seven-yard carry for the final touchdown of the game.

Final look
Turkey Valley had 307 yards of offense in the game with 261 coming on the ground.
   C. Busta carried the ball six times for 69 yards, averaging 11.5 yards per play. Hanson was right behind with 68 yards on three carries. Hanson also completed both of his pass attempts for 46 yards with Hayek as his only target.
Senior Troy Schmitt led the defense with four solo and five assisted tackles, while O. Schmitt had two solo and five assisted stops. Recovering fumbles for the Trojans were Ryan Franzen and Brady Fischer.

Next week
The Trojans go on the road to face Clarksville Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. Clarksville is 1-1 in the district who lost a close battle with Tripoli last week, 58-42, and defeated West Central 68-32.
