Battling an illness bug on the team, the Warriors were outrun by the visiting Kee Hawks (8-0, 6-0 UIC), with the South Winn boys’ basketball team (5-2, 3-2 UIC) falling at home Friday, 65-49.
“The young guys gave a lot of effort, but we got beat up again on the offensive glass and turned the ball over way too much to be competitive. Once we clean up some of the little mistakes we are making, we’ll be right back in the hunt after Christmas,” said Coach Derek Taylor.
The visitors took off at a lightning pace in the first half, leading 38-23 at the break. That deficit was too much for the Warriors to make up as they nearly evened the Hawks’ scoring in the second half.
Matson Winings and Carson Streeter were both in double figures. Winings posted 13 points and four rebounds to aid the Warrior effort, while Streeter put up 12 points to go with four assists.
South Winn was at Postville Tuesday night, and will wrap up the 2023 half of the season at home Thursday, Dec. 21, against MFL MarMac.
