Holm reaches semifinals, two other Warriors still vying for medals

As a team, the South Winn boys’ wrestling team has garnered 29 points and are tied with Maquoketa Valley for 18th place in Class 2A. Meanwhile, senior Collin Holm is well on his way to the finals for the second year in a row, with three other Warriors still vying for a spot on the podium Friday night.
It was a 12-0 major decision win over Jordan Dusenberry of Wilton in the 144-pound quarterfinal Thursday night earning his 100th career win. In Holm’s way of the title match is Denver’s Boden White who defeated the Warrior at the district meet and one other time this season. Holm has beaten White once this season as well.
In a back-and-forth match that had South Winn and MFL MarMac fans on their feet, Kyle Kuboushek defeated Bulldog Quinn McGeough in overtime 5-4. Now the Warrior sophomore needs to best Hinton’s Jackson Kounkel in the fourth round of the consolation bracket Friday night to guarantee himself a medal.
Parker Timp dropped into the consolation bracket Thursday night as he fell to Eli Green of Interstate 35 in the 215-pound quarterfinals by a 10-4 decision. In will be a battle of northeast Iowa schools as the Warrior senior is set to take on Grant Henderson of Sumner-Fredericksburg Friday night in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
Wrapping up their bids for the podium Thursday night were Aiden Feickert and Landen Schnuelle.
At 113 pounds, Feickert opened Thursday night’s second round consolation with a fall in 1:18 over Maxon Monat of North Tama, but later fell by an 8-3 decision to Jensen Dyer of Martensdale-St. Marys in round three of the consolations. Feickert concludes his senior campaign with a 43-9 record.
Schnuelle, competing at 150 pounds, couldn’t hold on to Rory Prazaak II of Central Springs in the second round of consolations. Holding a 1-0 lead into period three, Schnuelle gave up an escape and was taken to the mat with 16 seconds to drop the match, finishing 35-17 for the season.
