Mark it down in the record books, the Decorah boys’ bowling team tallied 3,407 in Friday’s match against Oelwein — the most since forming a team nine years ago — in the overwhelming victory over the Huskies 3,407 to 2,214.
“It was a combined effort for the guys as everyone pitched in,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “The baker round was electric for the guys as every game was just as awesome as the last.”
Baker games were 233, 213, 206, 256 and 197.
TJ Round led the way for the Vikings with a 500 series (235, 265), only the fifth Viking to do so. Jordan Sims provided solid games of 247 and 244, while Cade Averhoff finished the night with a 224 and 225. Also knocking down the pins on varsity were Tyler Novak (231, 222), Brock Christensen (223, 186) and Cain Monreal-Rice.
The girls also moved to 3-0 for the season, finishing with 2,379 over Oelwein’s 1,165. Baker games for the girls were 199, 134, 181, 179 and 113.
“The girls are improving every week, but we need more work on our spares,” noted Coach K. Bruening.
At top for the girls was Marri Feuerhelm with games of 176 and 196, while Karlie Einck was there with a 167 and 174. Rylee Averhoff put up scores of 130 and 191, with Jasera Tweten (155, 111), Addison Wicklund (146, 127) and Anika Grinna (122, 117) completing the varsity line-up.
Next up for the Decorah keglers is a date with Denver at Panther Lanes in Tripoli Friday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m.
