Keglers record third win

With the 2021 portion of the season nearing its end, the Decorah bowling teams made up Friday’s postponed match with Oelwein Tuesday, with both the boys’ and girls’ squads earning their third wins.
Competing at Skyline Lanes, the varsity boys moved to 3-0 by throwing a 2,823. Oelwein came up with a 2,302. Baker scores for Decorah were 215, 169, 180, 176 and 203.
“We had good energy all night and the scores reflect that vibe,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “I was especially pleased at how the kids hit the pocket.”
Brody Anfinson was strong on the lanes, throwing a 183 and 234. Other varsity keglers were Karter Einck (243, 174), Brendan Hunter (186, 187), Grady Brauer (149, 189), William Marx (147, 179) and Gavin Sims (119, 216).
The JV boys also improved to 3-0 and were led by juniors Easton Luzum with a 349 and Nick Rollins with a 345.
The varsity girls dominated the lanes, putting up their highest score to date with a 2,319 to Oelwein’s 1,421. Baker scores were 166, 168, 159, 168 and 120.
“I was pleased with our strike shot, but we have to work on our spares,” said Coach K. Bruening. “Overall, us coaches are happy with how the girls performed.”
Leading the way with games of 183 and 165 was junior Rebecca Bruening. Senior Grace Gerleman provided games of 190 and 157. Also on the lanes for Decorah were Paige Lange (156, 147), Lily Iverson (143, 145), Sydney Hageman (142, 108) and Hannah Schnitzler (125, 157).
The JV girls fired a 1,718 to move to 3-0. Leading the way were Hailey Bower with a 307 and Anika Grinna with a 221.
The Vikings are at Denver Friday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m., and squeeze in one final match before the holiday on Tuesday, Dec. 21, versus West Delaware at Lightning Lanes in Manchester.
