While Decorah boys’ bowling team continues to roll in the wins, the girls suffered their first defeat of the season Friday night at Charles City.
Improving to 5-0, the Viking boys had an outstanding showing in Charles City, winning 2,964 to 2,533. Baker game scores were 188, 157, 188, 169 and 180.
Pacing Decorah with a 462 was senior co-captain Will Marx (195, 267) with Grady Brauer providing games of 169 and 248 for a 417 tally. Also, in on the varsity scoring with a 408 total was freshman Tyler Novak (215-193), along with junior Cade Averhoff totaled 398 (195-203). Rounding out the scoring was Easton Luzum (235-162) and Daniel Skrade (185-171).
“The boys continued their dominance in the bakers combining for an 882 in the five bakers,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “Overall, the boys had another excellent showing and doing it in dominant fashion.
The junior varsity boys also improved to 5-0, led by Beau Newhouse (380) and Tom Esselmont (360).
It was a close finish in the girls’ match-up as Charles City edged the Vikings by 27 pins — 2,424 to 2,397 to move the Decorah girls to 4-1. Baker games were 137, 159, 145, 169 and 154.
“On paper we win by 300-400 pins. Unfortunately, that is why you play, and we had many missed opportunities. The girls need to hit the head pin and pick up spares. We will regroup and get ready for the next match. It doesn’t get any easier the rest of the way,” said Coach Bruening.
Leading the way was Karlie Einck (189-183-372) and Rebecca Bruening (180-187-367). Other varsity keglers on the lanes for the Vikings were Chloe Chyle (142-160), Anika Grina (156-120), Lily Iverson (161-137) and Hannah Schnitzler (174-121).
In junior varsity girls’ action, Decorah picked up its fifth win of the season, led by Sydney Hageman (292) and Marri Feuerhelm (277).
Decorah will host Tripoli Friday, Jan. 13, at the Kingpin Entertainment Center at 4 p.m.
