Keeping the perfect season in sights, Friday’s match between the Decorah boys’ bowling team and Forest City came down to less than 100 pins. When the final ball was rolled down the lane it was the Vikes coming out on top 2,676 to 2,567.
Off to a shaky start in the individual shooting, Decorah began with a 1,783 as a team and needed big baker games to secure the win. Baker games for the varsity boys were 179, 156, 198, 169 and 191. Anchoring the bakers was senior Easton Luzum.
Individually it was junior Cade Averhoff leading the way with games of 201 and 202, followed by sophomore Jordan Sims (189, 191). Other varsity keglers on the lanes included Shane Treagen (161, 186), Benson Newhouse (169, 161), Easton Luzum (170, 153) and Grady Brauer (150, 148).
“We won ugly but that is a sign of a great team — winning when not at your best,” said Coach Keith Bruening.
The varsity girls were also in action at Forest City and came home with the win 2,375 to 2,238, improving to 6-1. Baker games were 118, 178, 132, 158 and 157.
Leading the way individually were a pair of freshmen. Karlie Einck had games of 192 and 193, while Marri Feuerhelm had games of 172 and 151. Adding to the success were Rebecca Bruening (148, 169), Anika Grinna (172, 130), Sydney Hageman (153, 152) and Lily Iverson (146, 138).
Decorah will host North Iowa Friday, Jan. 27, at Kingpin Entertainment Center at 4 p.m.
