Kime medals, Kurtenbach runner-up for TV

By Becky Walz,

Sustained winds between 30 and 40 mph made for some interesting scores Thursday as the Turkey Valley golf teams hosted Central Elkader. When the final ball was put in the cup, the Trojans split the contest with the girls coming out victorious and the boys falling short.
The senior girls led the way for TV in the win 238 to 244.
“The girls battled away around the course and we had just enough stamina to eke out a six-stroke win over a good Central club,” said Coach John Reicks.
A round of 52 earned Reagen Kime medalist honors. Once again, consistency was the name of the game as Ali Hoffert (61), Emma Hanson (62), Kylie Wurzer (63) and Tess Franzen (65) shot within four strokes of each other. Freshman Mariah Throndson came in with a 71.
The TV boys played short-handed as both the track and trapshoot teams had meets,” explained the coach.
As a result, the Trojans fell 223 to 198.
The Trojans were led by the Kurtenbach brothers as junior Garrett and freshman Caleb (51) tallied the two low TV scores on the night. G. Kurtenbach’s 46 earned him runner-up medalist honors for his effort.
Byrne fired a 55 on the night, while senior newcomer Cael Wickman had a nice round going up to his last hole of the night before disaster struck. Cael closed with a 71. Lance Schmitt was also on the course and finished with a 74.
The Trojans face a hectic stretch ahead with four meets on tap this week to conclude the regular season. Monday, TV was at Postville and will host South Winn tonight (Tuesday, May 4). Thursday, May 6, West Central will visit Jackson Heights before the TV boys close out the week at Crestwood.
