Going on the road in conference action, the Turkey Valley softball team (5-15, 5-3 UIC) split a pair with Central Elkader Monday night. Tuesday, the Trojans stepped out of the UIC to battle Saint Ansgar on the road.
Slug fest
The Trojans fell short in game one, 12-9, against Central Elkader (1-11, 1-5 UIC) with the Warriors squashing the seventh inning comeback. Each squad put up a run in the first. TV built a 6-2 lead in the second, only to give up eight runs in the third and two in the fifth to Central. In the seventh, the Trojans staged a comeback plating three runs before getting shutdown.
Annika Bodensteiner and Raelen Manderfield shared the pitcher’s circle in the loss.
In the batter’s box TV had nine hits including multi-hit games by Addison Lutgen and Karstyn Lukes. A. Lutgen knocked out a double while Lukes drove in three. Autumn Maklenburg also had three RBI.
Scoring in each inning, the Trojans quickly rebounded to win the nightcap, 26-16, in six innings. Central was nearly as equally impressive in scoring with runs in five of the six frames.
Lukes earned the win as she nearly went the distance.
The Trojans racked up 18 hits in the contest. Delaney Busta was 4-for-6 with four RBI. Pounding out three hits apiece were Morgan Vsetecka, Lukes and Maklenburg. Vsetecka collected six RBI, while Lukes had three and Maklenburg had two. Bodensteiner also had a multi-hit game.

Tuesday the Trojans were on the road again, this time to take on Class 1A No. 15 Saint Ansgar (15-6). Battling throughout the game, the Trojans fell 4-1.
