In the NEIC finale, the Decorah girls’ basketball team (11-7, 8-4 NEIC) put together a stellar second half to defeat Crestwood (5-16, 4-8 NEIC) at home Tuesday night, 55-41.
Playing even in the first quarter at 11-11, the Vikes fell behind at the half 22-18 after experiencing a three-minute scoring drought.
Decorah rebounded in the second half to pull within one, 34-33, with eight minutes left to play. Entering the final period, the Vikes went on a 16-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 44-34, with five minutes remaining and never looked back.
“We played a solid second half of basketball as the girls did a good job of keeping their composure and performed one of the better fourth quarters we have had all season,” said Coach Shannon Quandahl.
Paving the way offensively for Decorah was Haley Gossman with 18 points. Two other Vikings were in double figures as Bryar Duwe contributed 12 and Abigail Milburn added 10. In the scorebook with nine was Emma Nierengarten.
The Vikes will cap off the season with a non-conference tussle with MFL MarMac tonight (Thursday, Feb. 11), in Monona at 6:15 p.m.
