Let the playoffs begin this week

With the first week of May brings the start of postseason action.
Most track, golf and tennis assignments have been announced. Girls’ golf, girls’ tennis and boys and girls soccer will be released in upcoming weeks.

Track
Decorah track and field teams will take the oval at Waverly-Shell Rock for Northeast Iowa Conference meet Thursday, May 5, at 5 p.m.
South Winn and Turkey Valley are at Postville for the Upper Iowa Conference track meet Thursday, May 5, at 4 p.m.
The state qualifying meets are Thursday, May 12, starting at 4 p.m.
Decorah will host the Region 4 meet with the following participating schools: Center Point-Urbana, Charles City, Epworth (Western Dubuque), Independence, Wahlert Catholic, Waverly-Shell Rock and West Delaware.
South Winn and Turkey Valley are Edgewood-Colesburg, competing against the Vikings, Central City, Central Elkader, Clayton Ridge, East Buchanan, Kee, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn, Starmont, Tripoli, Wapsie Valley and West Central.
The state meet is Thursday through Saturday, May 19-21, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Boys golf
Decorah starts the postseason with the sectional meet Wednesday, May 11, at 10 a.m. The Vikings will be at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Clear Lake with Charles City, Clear Lake, Crestwood, Hampton-Dumont, Independence, Oelwein and Waverly-Shell Rock.
The NEIC meet is Friday, May 13, at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Charles City at 10 a.m. 
The Vikings will host the district meet Monday, May 16, at Oneota Golf and Country Club at 10 a.m.
South Winn and Turkey Valley boys are at the UIC meet Monday, May 9, at Tri City Golf Club at 10 a.m.
The Class 1A sectional meet for the Warriors and Trojans is at Woods Edge Golf Course in Edgewood Wednesday, May 11, at 10 a.m. They will be competing against Central Elkader, Clayton Ridge, Edgewood-Colesburg, Starmont and West Central. Teams and individuals advancing to the district meet will compete at Pheasant Ridge in Cedar Falls Tuesday, May 17, at 10 a.m., hosted by East Buchanan.

Girls golf
The Decorah girls start the postseason at the NEIC meet Monday, May 9, hosted by Waukon at 10 a.m.
Because the Vikings are in Class 3A, they only have one regional meet before state. The lone regional is Wednesday, May 18. The location and competitors have yet to be released.
South Winn will host the UIC meet at South Winn Golf and Country Club Tuesday, May 10, at 10 a.m.
Both South Winn and Turkey Valley will compete in Class 1A with the first regional meet scheduled for Friday, May 13. The second regional meet is Wednesday, May 18. Locations and opponents will be released sometime this week.

Boys tennis
The Decorah boys’ tennis team competed in the North Central Tennis Conference tournament Monday, May 2, at Waverly-Shell Rock.
The Vikings start the road to state Monday, May 9, at the Class 1A district meet. All district singles and doubles meets are set to begin at 8 a.m., with the coaches meet and seeding meeting before play begins. The rain date is currently schedule for Tuesday, May 10. Decorah will host Aplington-Parkersburg, Clear Lake, Epworth (West Dubuque), Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Independence, Oelwein and Waverly-Shell Rock. Individual qualifiers from the district meets advance to the 2022 IHSAA State Singles and Doubles Tennis Tournament in Waterloo May 24-25.

Girls tennis
Monday the Decorah girls’ tennis team hosted the North Central Tennis Conference tournament at Luther College. Postseason assignments have not been released; however, the regional individual and doubles tournament will take place Wednesday, May 11. Regional team competitions will begin Saturday, May 14.
