Milburn lifts Vikings over CL

By Becky Walz,

After a game where the Decorah girls’ soccer team (3-2) dominated possession and out shot Clear Lake (3-3) by a large margin, the Vikings finally found the back of the net one minute into the second overtime.
Playing on the road Friday night, Decorah pulled off the double overtime 1-0 victory when Abby Milburn finished off a beautiful cross by Taryn Sanderman, cutting the ball inside to beat the final defender. Junior Grace Bachelder had four saves in the match as well.
“This one was a little tough to watch.  I felt we played beautifully, but just couldn’t make anything click on the final third. I hope these tired girls learned a lesson about finishing when we have a chance instead of dragging things out for yet another overtime,” said Coach Loren Hendrickson.
In junior varsity action, Decorah defeated the Lyons 2-0. One goal was scored in each half, the first by Grace Neal and the second by Gabrielle Dixon.
