Moen to lead Viking girls basketball program

Blake Moen

Decorah High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Blake Moen as head varsity girls basketball coach pending school board approval. Moen will replace Shannon Quandahl who resigned after 14 years in the program and eight as the head coach.
Moen returns to coaching basketball after most recently serving as the head boys basketball coach at South Winneshiek for four years from 2017 to 2021. During that time he lead the Warriors to a 60-32 record highlighted by a State Basketball Tournament appearance in 2021. In previous years, he served as the 9th grade boys basketball coach for Decorah High School for three seasons from 2013 to 2016.
Moen graduated from Decorah High School in 2012 after participating in football, basketball and baseball. He went on to Luther College where he began his coaching career taking on various student assistant and later full time assistant roles for both the football and baseball programs.
“I am absolutely honored and privileged for the opportunity to lead the Decorah High School girls basketball program. I hope to continue to build upon the past successes established by Coach Quandahl and previous coaches, while also bringing enthusiasm and passion to our team, coaches and entire program,” said Moen.
“Coach Moen brings a wealth of experiences his new role in our girls basketball program and we are extremely excited to have him take on this new responsibility within the high school and our community. Coach Moen has an excellent reputation of being a positive role model and relationship builder with all individuals he comes in contact and we look forward to him continuing to do so for not only the girls involved in the girls basketball program, but all of our students as well,” said Activities Director Adam Riley.
