As rain moved in and out of the area Monday, the baseball teams of South Winn (13-2, 10-0 UIC) and Turkey Valley (8-9, 6-4 UIC) remained on the field in Jackson Junction completing the conference doubleheader. At the end of the night, it was the Warriors sweeping the Trojans.
The first contest saw a mix of clear skies and heavy rains as SW put up one run in the third and one in the fourth. The Warriors broke the game open with three in the fifth and shut out the Trojans in their effort for the win, 5-0.
South Winn took a commanding 6-1 lead and added two more runs in the second to conclude all the scoring to be had in the nightcap, winning 8-1.

SW highlights
The pitching staff for the Warriors continued their momentum, surrendering just three hits in total on the night led by seniors Keagen Streeter and Jamie Kuennen, both picking up wins tossing five innings each in their starts. Braiden Todd and Kole Hageman both had big nights offensively with extra base hits and the defense was near flawless, committing just two errors.
“Turkey Valley has a nice ball club this year and we found ourselves in a tight game early in game one. The weather conditions made it difficult to hit and our guys did a nice job finding a couple of runs in the middle of the game, which proved to be enough for Keagen (Streeter) and our relief pitchers. In the second game, the big first inning really gave us momentum early. Kole Hageman throwing two innings of solid relief was a nice bright spot as we have some busy days coming up and will need multiple pitchers to get through that stretch,” said SW Coach Alex Smith.

The Trojans were limited to three hits in the two contests, with one from Oliver Schmitt in the first game. In game two, it was Carson Busta and Calvin Bodensteiner connecting with Bodensteiner having the lone RBI.
“We will have to score a few more runs to give ourselves a chance to win games,” said TV Coach Dan Stepan.
Five players climbed the hill for Turkey Valley, including Logan Busta, C. Busta, Russell Nieman, Bodensteiner and Schmitt.
