The Class 1A No. 10 South Winn baseball team (6-0, 4-0 UIC) started the week off with a doubleheader sweep over North Fayette Valley (0-7, 0-4 UIC) Tuesday in Calmar, 6-4 and 7-3.
Freshmen pitchers Braiden Todd and Carson Streeter picked up the wins on the mound. Todd went six innings with eight strikeouts and allowed one run in the opener, while Streeter tossed six frames, allowing three runs and strikes out five in game two. Jamie Kuennen picked up a save in game one and finished the second game.
Kuennen also had a monster night offensively with four hits, including a home run, double and four RBI. Keagen Streeter had a three-hit night as well. Kaden Bullerman had web gem of a catch in centerfield along with a big time double play line drive catch by Carson Wenthold to K. Streeter for some flashy defense on the night as well.
“These were two highly contested games. We could never quite come up with the big innings to put NFV away and they were tough on us at the plate making a lot of contact and forcing us to make some plays down the stretch to secure the wins. Braiden and Carson both did a great job for us, giving us six strong innings, and Kole Hageman handled the night behind the plate extremely well,” said Coach Alex Smith.
