No. 12 Decorah moves to 22-5 record

By Becky Walz,

Having to adjust the line-up due to illness and injury, the Decorah volleyball team (22-5, 3-1 NEIC) matched up with some top teams last week.

Stumbling block
The Vikes hosted a scrappy, well-disciplined team from Caledonia Thursday, falling 3-1 in the non-conference action. Set scores were 14-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 22-25.
“I felt like at times we passed, set and swung really well, and at other times I felt we were slow to get to base which didn’t put us in the correct position to play defense. We also got ourselves in some positions where we let service runs happen against us. This was a good team for us to add to our schedule at this time during the season to help prepare us for postseason,” said Coach Gina Holthaus.
At the net, Amelia Dugger was the familiar force with 12 kills and five solo blocks and one assisted block. The junior also went 14-for-14 from the serving stripe. Haley Gossman added 11 kills, 16 digs and three total digs. Emma Wold handed out 19 assists, while Maddy Fromm dished out another 16 assists. Coming away with 18 digs was Dahlyn Headington.
