No. 5 Vikes move to 18-2

By Becky Walz,

It was another win for the Class 4A No. 5 Decorah girls’ basketball team (18-2, 9-0 NEIC) last week as the Vikings defeated Waukon (11-8, 5-4 NEIC) on the road, 61-42.
Controlling the tempo of the game early, Decorah pulled out to a 16-8 first quarter lead. Uncharacteristically the Vikes stumbled offensively in the second, allowing the Indians back into the contest at halftime but still maintained the advantage 24-20. That lead was pushed to 42-35 in the third and Decorah put the game away in the fourth, outscoring Waukon 19-7 in the final eight minutes.
