It was another two wins for the Class 3A No. 5 Decorah boys’ basketball team (14-1, 7-1 NEIC) last week as the Vikes defeated New Hampton and Dubuque Hempstead.

Lopsided victory
Friday night the Vikings welcomed New Hampton (1-14, 1-7 NEIC) to Decorah, winning 90-44. No other game information was available at press time.

Home win
It was a big win Saturday night at home for Decorah, defeating Dubuque Hempstead (6-7) 80-47.
The defense propelled the Vikes early on to get an 18-12 lead at the first eight-minute break. All cylinders were firing in the second period as Decorah outscored the Mustangs 24-9 to lead 42-21 at halftime. That cushion was all the Vikings needed as they continued to roll through the third, doubling up the visitors in scoring 22-11. The game virtually ended in the third quarter with Decorah scoring 22 and giving up just 11 to lead 64-32 with eight minutes remaining.
Individual stats were unavailable at press time.

This week
It’s another non-conference game Tuesday, Jan. 30, for the Vikes as they host Chatfield (Minn.) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, Decorah will host Waukon in NEIC action at 8 p.m.
