Despite the loss, South Winn football coach Jason Ohrt believes he is seeing improvements in the Warrior (2-5, 2-3) team. Friday night, the Warriors hosted Bellevue (4-3, 2-3) for their final home contest of the season, dropping the district game, 22-6.
“We adjusted our coverage schemes on defense a little bit and that presented some problems for Bellevue’s passing attack. Keagan Streeter and Landon Garcia had another great game defensively. Lane Quandahl played his best game defensively this season. Despite being just sophomores, Brady Ohrt, Parker Timp and Brody Tieskoetter are playing very well for us. We are asking a lot out of those three kids and they just go out there and play at a high level each week,” noted Coach Ohrt.
Points
Things looked to be in control early despite the Warriors giving up a 22-yard pass. SW locked in and stopped the 2-point conversion attempt to keep the score low 6-0 in favor of Bellevue. In the second, Comets found the end zone again on an 11-yard run. The Warriors countered with a touchdown of their own when Parker Timp darted across the goal line from four yards outs, to leave the score 14-6 at halftime.
The Comets put together another touchdown drive in the third quarter and effectively kept the Warriors from doing the same to erase the deficit.
The stat sheet
Leading the Warrior offense with 80 yards in 25 carries was Parker Timp. Averaging 10.6 yards per carry, Sam Conway had 53 total yards in five touches, while Nick Holien carried the ball 11 times for 41 yards and complete 2-for-6 passes for 18 yards. Pulling down a pass apiece were Trey Kriener and Brady Ohrt.
Keagen Streeter had a monster game on defense with nine solo tackles and one assisted tackle. Lane Quandahl had five solo stops and two assists, while Conway had four solo tackles and three assists.
One last obstacle
The final obstacle that could keep South Winn out of the postseason is East Buchanan Friday, Oct. 15, when the Warriors wrap up the regular portion of the 2021 season. Kick-off for the district finale is set for 7 p.m.
