On a roll, Vikes make it four in a row

By Becky Walz,

The pins keep falling and wins keep coming for the Decorah bowling teams as both the boys and girls earned wins over Denver Friday in Tripoli.
The boys brought home the victory 2,569 to Denver’s 2,414. Baker scores were 167, 178, 149, 204 and 200.
“As they say — we won ugly,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “The boys had many missed opportunities and too many missed spares.”
Leading the way for the Vikings were Emmit Stemper with scores of 181 and 197. Brendan Hunter was also at the top with scores of 157 and 174. Other varsity keglers included Cade Averhoff (160, 168), Karter Einck (156, 169), Gavin Sims (153, 156) and Brody Anfinson (164, 134).
While the scores didn’t show how good the girls’ team bowled, the Lady Vikes came home with a big win as well, 2,181 to 1,602 to move to 4-0.
Bowling combined scores of 308 to lead the Viking charge were Rebecca Bruening (144, 164) and Grace Gerleman (144,164). Also, on the lanes for Decorah were Hailey Bower (134, 140), Lily Iverson (106, 138), Hannah Schnitzler (117, 123) and Paige Lange (98, 93).
“We as coaches can’t complain too hard on being 4-0. The kids are stepping up and making some good shorts,” added Coach K. Bruening.
Decorah has one more match before the holiday as the Viking travel to Lightning Lanes in Manchester to take on West Delaware Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 4 p.m. After the break, Decorah starts up again Friday, Jan. 7, as host to Charles City.
