The season is off to a perfect start for the South Winn baseball team as they have rattled off six straight wins.

UIC action
The Warriors pulled off the UIC sweep on Tuesday evening at North Fayette Valley, 8-5 and 9-1.
The dominating starting pitching picked up right where it left off last week, with Keagen Streeter and Nick Holien both throwing gems in their starting roles.
In game one, the Warriors got on the board early with two runs in the first and added a big four-run fifth inning that included back to back home runs by Streeter and Greve.
Game two may have been an eight-run win for the Warriors, but it was far from a blowout as the Warriors trailed 1-0 into the fifth inning before score two runs in the fifth and adding seven big insurance runs in the seventh inning. Dayten Ondrashek had a big RBI single to tie the game in the fifth and Nick Holien followed that up with the go-ahead single.
“It was great to see our guys grind out a victory in game two, and the NFV pitcher was very difficult on us until we finally got to him in the fifth. Our starting pitching continued to be outstanding, and we got the clutch hits and made defensive plays when we needed to. There are many aspects I expect we will continue to make improvements in, but for early in the season baseball, we have a lot of positives going for us right now,” said Coach Alex Smith.

Catching up
Thursday, the Warriors hosted two strong programs in the area — St. Ansgar (2-1) and Wapsie Valley (1-2), collecting a pair of wins.
In game one, Saint Ansgar took the early lead, but South Winn responded with a big two-run homer in the third inning by Logan Hageman. Brody Tieskoetter added two insurance runs in the sixth inning with a pinch hit, two RBI double. Jordan Buchheit was sharp on the mound tossing the complete game surrendering just three hits.
In the second game, the strong Warrior pitching continued with Holien going the distance scattering five hits and while striking out eight and walking just one. The Warriors took advantage of Wapsie Valley miscues in the sixth inning to score their first two runs and then went on to add four runs in the seventh.
