Warriors aiming to return to state tourney in 2024

The South Winn baseball program will look for another successful campaign in the 2024 season in spite graduating some key components of last year’s squad.
In his 14th season as head coach is Alex Smith. Stepping into the dugout with him as assistants will be Justin Izer, Nathan Moonen, Carter Wenthold and Seth Greve.

 

Good things coming; Vikings hoping experience will pave the way

The Decorah baseball team has 13 returning letter winners and a strong desire to make the most of the 2024 season.
Taking the reins is first-year head coach Alec Zwanziger, with Matthew Kuempel, Brian Solberg and Josh Fenske as his assistants.

 

Trojans look to be competitive on the baseball diamond

While several key players from last year’s squad gone, there are some holes to fill in the line-up for the Turkey Valley baseball team. The experience that returns, combined with youth stepping up to the plate could put the Trojans in each and every game.
Making up the line-up for each game will be veteran head coach Dan Stepan who has been with the program for 28 season, 22 of them as head coach. Others in the dugout helping to guide the team will be assistants Noah Hanson, Steve Busta and Adam Hanson.

The Turkey Valley softball team is largely inexperienced with no seniors and just one varsity started back on the field for the 2024 season.
Returning for his seventh season at the helm is Junior Hackman with Anthony Troyna as assistant.

It was another close contest for the Decorah softball team (1-1) Tuesday as the Vikings hosted South Winn (1-1) in a rescheduled game from last week. This one wasn’t in the Vikings’ favor, as the Warriors pulled out the 3-2 victory.

The offense was hot for the Decorah baseball team (6-1, 4-0 NEIC) as the Vikings swept Waukon (1-5, 1-3 NEIC) at home Tuesday night, 8-2 and 7-3.

Oh what a night for the Turkey Valley and MFL MarMac baseball teams as the two Upper Iowa Conference squads endured two rain delays and one 11-inning game in a varsity doubleheader Tuesday night in Monona. At the end of the long night, the Trojans (0-4, 0-2 UIC) came up short, 16-2 and 5-4, to the Bulldogs (5-1, 2-0 UIC).

It was a busy weekend for Decorah girls’ and boys’ track and field teams as Viking fans cheered on 33 events at the 2024 State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The boys’ team garnered 16 points during the weekend to finish 18th in Class 3A, while the girls picked up 10 points for a 27th place finish.

SW girls golf teams bows out of postseason in regional final

While the South Winn girls golf team may not have finished the season at state, the Warriors had a great day on the course Wednesday, completing the day with a season low score of 425.
“All the girls played solid golf. Playing our best golf of the year was a great way to end our very successful season,” said Coach Glenna Munuswamy.

The Turkey Valley girls’ golf team concluded their 2024 season with an appearance at the Class 1A Regional Final at Nashua on Wednesday, May 15.
The Lady Trojans finished seventh with a 454.Perennial powerhouse Beckman Catholic finished as the team champion with a 386 followed closely by Nashua-Plainfield with a 388.
