The South Winn Warriors improved to 9-1 on the season and 7-0 in conference play with dominating victories over Postville Monday before suffering their first loss of the season to Newman Catholic Tuesday.

Trojan softball sweeps Bulldogs

Going on the road in conference action, the Turkey Valley softball team (2-1, 2-0 UIC) swept MFL MarMac (3-6, 2-2 UIC) Monday night, 7-3 and 7-2.
After the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Trojans got on the board with two in the third frame and scratched across the tying run in the fifth. Turkey Valley rallied stronger in the top of the seventh with four more to take the lead and held on in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Warriors move to 4-0 in UIC

The South Winn softball team (4-4, 4-0 UIC) picked up two conference wins to start the week.
Monday, the Warriors hosted West Central (1-8, 0-4 UIC), 8-4 and 11-1. It was a sweep for the Warriors with South Winn winning 8-4 and 11-1.
West Central had South Winn fans biting their nails with a 3-2 lead after the top of the third before the Warrior bats exploded. They put up six runs in the frame and nearly shut down the Blue Devil offense the rest of the game.

Vikings top Comets in opener, game two to be completed

Looking to get the doubleheader in before the rain, the Decorah baseball team (8-3, 6-1 NEIC) managed to scrape out a 4-2 game one victory over Charles City (3-6, 2-5 NEIC) Tuesday night. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, the Vikings scored their four runs with two outs, highlighted by a Jacob Pipho home run.

TV baseball drops doubleheader to Indians

The Turkey Valley baseball team (3-8, 2-3 UIC) traveled to Waukon Monday, falling to the Indians (5-6, 1-5 NEIC) in a varsity twinbill, 3-2 and 5-1.
In game one, the Trojans got the bats swinging early with a run in the first; however, Waukon answered with three runs in the bottom half of the opening inning. Despite TV best efforts to erase the deficit, they were only able to get back within one with a run in the sixth frame.

Decorah fights back in seventh to defeat Trojans

The Decorah softball team (3-0) succeeded in stringing together some hits in the final inning Thursday to defeat Turkey Valley (0-1) at home 4-3.
The Trojans plated two runs in the first frame to take the early lead, only to see that advantage evaporate with a Viking run in the third and fourth to knot the score. Turkey Valley responded with another tally in the fifth stanza, a lead which held until the bottom of the seventh when Decorah managed to scratch two runs across home plate.

Decorah had a solid showing at the 2022 state tennis tourney in Iowa City on Friday and Saturday. The Vikings sent a singles player, Allison Pavlovec, and a doubles team of Annalise Skrade and Mara Holland. All girls avoided being shut out in any of their matches. 

South Winn tops Bulldogs

The South Winn baseball team moved to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play with the 5-1 victory over MFL MarMac (3-6, 1-3 UIC) Thursday evening. 
Three key insurance runs later in the game gave some breathing room. MFL MarMac made it interesting in the seventh inning loading the bases and having the tying run at the plate. A great defensive pickoff by junior catcher, Keagen Streeter, ended the game.

Branum runner-up in Class 1A

The Class 1A boys’ state tennis individual tournament took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24-25, at Byrnes Park in Waterloo before moving indoors due to weather at Black Hawk Tennis Center. Representing the Decorah in the singles competition were junior Daniel Skrade and sophomore Caden Branum, where 16 players from eight different districts come together to battle it out.  
Branum, a district champion, secured the third seed and Skrade, a district runner-up, had to play a district Champion in the first round.  

Nine returning letter winners to lead South Winn softball program in 2022

With nearly its entire team back on the diamond, the South Winn softball team is looking to do big things in the Upper Iowa Conference this season.
Leading the squad will be five seniors and seven juniors for second-year head coach Ken Buchheit. Joining him in the dugout as assistants are Calsey Lensing, Taylor Buchheit, Sierra Breitsprecher and Mary Frana.

Leading the team for his 20th season is Dan Stepan with a pair of new assistants — Alex Gisleson and Steve Busta.
