The Decorah boys’ golf team utilized balanced scoring to finish second in a quad meet at Charles City Friday. As area teams look to make up lost competitions due to weather, Waverly-Shell Rock and New Hampton joined the competition.

Elkader Central took full advantage of their home course to eke out a couple of close wins over the Turkey Valley boys’ and girls’ golf team Thursday.
“The greens were extremely tricky with several very tough pin placements. The weather was decent, relatively speaking with cool temps and breezy conditions over the soggy course after the Thursday mid-morning rain,” noted Coach John Reicks.
Back-to-back fifth place finishes for Trojan girls

With so many meets cancelled throughout the cold, wet season, the Turkey Valley girls’ track and field team snuck in two meets late last week, picking up a meet at MFL MarMac Thursday and at North Butler Friday. In both meets, the Trojans finished fifth in the team standings.
Decorah represents Winn. Co. at Drake Relays

The Decorah girls’ and boys’ track teams represented the county at the Drake Relays, held in Des Moines Thursday through Saturday, April 28-30.
Despite extreme spring cold and rain, the Vikings still set the bar high for the rest of the season.

Decorah second at Waukon Relays, SW seventh

In a meet that felt more like mid-March than late-April, the Decorah and South Winn girls’ track teams didn’t let the cold get to them in Waukon Tuesday night.
“It was a cold night, but we are happy anytime we get to compete. We are finding out where our toughness lies,” said Decorah coach Cristy Nimrod.
Decorah wrapped up the night in second with 137.33 points, behind New Hampton’s 150. After Monday’s meet at Oelwein was cancelled, the Warriors scrambled to get another go at getting on the track and claimed 59 points for seventh place.

The Decorah boys’ (5-2) varsity soccer teams took to their home pitch to face off against Denver Monday, then headed to Hudson Tuesday to collect a pair of wins. The boys took home a win, beating Denver (1-5) by a 3-0 score and the Pirates (4-3) 2-0.

The Decorah girls’ tennis team was rewarded for traveling to Charles City on Monday as they came away with a sweet 9-0 victory. Tuesday, the Vikes were again victorious at Oelwein 9-0.
South Winn girls hold 18-hole triangular

The South Winn girls’ golf team hosted North Fayette Valley and Clayton Ridge in an 18-hole triangular at South Winn Golf and Country Club Tuesday afternoon amid the strong winds and cold temperatures. The Eagles of Clayton Ridge came out on top with a 430, while the TigerHawks finished the day second with a 474 tally. South Winn rounded out the field with a 484.

Amid the eight-team field Tuesday in Guttenberg, the Turkey Valley girls’ track and field team was the runner-up to Sumner-Fredericksburg. Twenty points behind the Cougars, the Trojans posted a team score of 103.
Four events were golden for the Red and White — three of them coming in individual events.
Decorah boys claim second at Mason City invite

Grateful.
After having five meets canceled due to weather conditions this season, the Decorah boys’ track and field team were grateful to be able to compete Tuesday night in Mason City, after Monday’s conditions were less than favorable.
“Mason City was able to secure enough workers to move the meet to Tuesday and we really needed a chance to compete,” noted Coach Joel Rollinger. “We were very pleased with the efforts of the team.”

Kruckman dominates distance events as SW boys run at Osage

The South Winn boys’ track team was able to compete on the oval at Osage Tuesday night, coming home with two gold medals and a fourth-place team finish with 61 points. Clear Lake secured the team title with 153, ahead of Charles City’s 136.

It was a tough start to the week for the Decorah girls’ soccer team (2-6) as it took to their home pitch to face off against Denver and Waverly-Shell Rock in games back-to-back. The Lady Vikes fought hard, but went away with a loss against the Lady Cyclones (4-2), 0-3 and Class 2A No. 6 Waverly-Shell Rock (6-1), 10-0.

It was not only a combat with the Cadets, but the cold, windy elements Monday night as the Decorah girls’ golf team hosted Crestwood in a NEIC dual at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club. When the final ball was put in the cup, the Cadets won the meet 239 to 270.

SW golf teams rise above Central

With weather looking uncertain for Friday, Warrior golf teams of South Winn and Central Elkader moved up their UIC dual to Thursday at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club in Ossian. Both home teams came out victorious and swept the medalist honors.
In the boys’ dual, the local Warriors carved out a win 192-246.
Rain, rain go away; SW harriers finish strong at NFV

After rains moved through northeast Iowa Friday morning, the South Winn girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in West Union at the North Fayette Valley Co-Ed Invite.
In team scores, the boys finished third overall with 84 points. Clear Lake won the crown with 184.
The Warrior girls came in sixth with 50 points in a team race won by Crestwood who garnered 108 points.
