One for the record books; Branum champion, duo second

Junior Caden Branum etched his name in the record books last week as the first Decorah tennis player to be crowned an individual champion, while Daniel Skrade and Landon Baker was the first doubles team since 1999 to reach the finals. It was only the second time the Vikes had both singles and doubles in the finals at state, the only other time was in 1995.

The season is set to be special for the South Winn softball team.
With veteran experience back at nearly every position, the Warriors have an eye on challenging for a conference title.
Leading the way Head Coach Ken Buchheit who is in his ninth year with the program, his third at the helm. He will be assisted by Taylor Lensing and Sierra Breitsprecher.

Decorah summer volleyball program

Students in third through eighth grade are invited to make plans to be involved in the Decorah summer volleyball program.
The varsity coaching staff, along with some juniors and seniors will lead the program on Mondays throughout June and July at the Decorah High School unless otherwise posted on the DVC Club Facebook page. Athletes can be dropped off and picked up at the loading dock entrance behind the high school gym.

It was a three-hit affair that didn’t go South Winn’s way Wednesday, as the Warriors (0-2) traveled to Saint Ansgar (1-2), falling 10-0, in five innings.
The Warriors managed just three singles in the game by Adrienne Winings, Morgan Kleve and Ella Willey.

CPU stops Decorah’s 14-3 season in OT

It certainly was a brutal ending to a great season by the Decorah boys soccer team Wednesday night in the substate final.
The Vikings tangled with Center Point-Urbana (12-3) at home, coming up short in overtime, 1-0.
Decorah ends the season with a 14-3 record.

Decorah takes care of Kee

Opening the season at home Monday, the Decorah baseball team (2-0, 0-0 NEIC) won a pair of non-conference games over foe Kee High, 12-5 and 4-3.
In game one, Decorah took a 2-0 lead in the third, utilizing an error, single by Ben Wymer, a fielder’s choice capped off by a Kaden Alstad, single.

Shortened games on opening day for SW

Opening day proved to be a good one for the South Winn baseball team (2-0, 2-0 UIC) which picked up a conference doubleheader sweep over Clayton Ridge-Central (1-4, 0-2 UIC). The Warriors minimized the number of innings played by picking up the run rule in both games in five innings. Pitching was the key with four Warriors pitching combining for 10 innings of scoreless ball.

Fans of high school soccer knew Monday’s Class 2A playoff game between ninth-ranked Decorah and Dubuque Wahlert would be an all-out battle. In a physical game with both teams hungry for the win, the rivals went back and forth on the Decorah field for the full 80 minutes, with the Vikings coming out on top 3-1.
