Six locals named All-UIC

Six local boys’ basketball players were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league team.
Representing South Winn were Trey Kriener, Keagen Streeter and Carson Wenthold and for Turkey Valley Dylan Reicks, Calvin Bodensteiner and Garrett Kurtenbach.

A trio of bowlers finished their season Wednesday at the Class 2A state bowling championships representing Decorah in Waterloo at Maple Lanes.
Vikes road to state continues

Crestwood may have scored first and last, but it was what the Decorah boys’ basketball team (20-1) did in between that sent a message that the Vikes were the better team Monday night. The Vikings defeated the Cadets (8-14) at home, 76-60 in the Class 3A substate quarterfinal.

Winneshiek Co. trio climb podium at Wells Fargo

Three Winneshiek County wrestlers, each representing a different team and weight division, worked their way to the podium at the state wrestling meet over the weekend.
Decorah junior Brady Stille had the best finish for the local grapplers. He earned third at 145 pounds in Class 2A. Marcus Herold of Turkey Valley/New Hampton put together a solid performance to finish seventh in Class 2A at 220 pounds. Senior Logan Hageman survived a tough Class 1A 195-pound bracket to finish sixth.
Vikes bow out in semifinals

The amazing season came to an end Saturday for the Decorah girls’ basketball team as the Vikes fell to Waverly-Shell Rock in the regional semifinal, held in Waverly.
The Go-Hawks (18-5) advanced to the finals today, Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Waverly against North Polk. Decorah ends the year 15-7.
Trojans end year with WV

The Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team ran into a senior-laden team in the Class 1A District 6 semifinal Thursday night, falling to Wapsie Valley, 65-35, on the road.
The Trojans ended the year 12-11. Wapsie Valley takes a 17-5 record against Edgewood-Colesburg (20-3) today, Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Starmont.
Soccer registration open for Decorah Park and Rec

Decorah Parks and Recreation spring soccer program is open for registration. Soccer is open to children ages 3 thru seventh grade and is held Saturday mornings at Will Baker Athletic Fields. Registration for all soccer leagues must be completed by Monday, March 7.

Three bowlers will represent the Decorah bowling program at state Wednesday, Feb. 23, after finishing in the top eight at Tuesday’s state qualifying meet at May City Bowl in Cedar Rapids. Preparing for the big stage at Maple Lanes in Waterloo are Grace Gerleman, Rebecca Bruening and Will Marx.

Two Decorah wrestlers advanced from the Class 2A District meet at New Hampton and Turkey Valley’s (NH-TV) Marcus Herold, while two Warriors moved on from their Class 1A District meet at Denver.
Vikes earn share of NEIC title

A 44-34 win handed the Decorah girls’ basketball team (14-6, 9-1 NEIC) a share of the Northeast Iowa Conference title. The Viking victory snaps a 26-game losing streak to Class 4A No. 9 Waverly-Shell Rock (16-5, 9-1 NEIC) that dates back to January 2010 and gives Decorah its first NEIC title since 2007.
