Decorah bests TigerHawks

It was almost a case of déjà vu between the Decorah girls soccer team and North Fayette Valley (1-9) with the Vikings (4-8) conquering the TigerHawks, 2-1, at home Monday.
The Vikes scored two goals in the first half, then proceeded to give NFV hope by allowing them a goal in the second. The two goals in the first half were scored by Kylie O’Hara within three minutes of each other, both on nice assists by Sara Johanningmeier, who gave O’Hara excellent passes through the defense she could run on to.

Vikes take fifth at NEIC meet

For the eighth-straight season, the New Hampton girls won the conference title at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet held Monday in Waverly.
After tying for the crown a year ago, the Chickasaws and Waverly-Shell Rock went 1-2 again in 2023. New Hampton took the win with a slim 3-stroke advantage with a 379 team score, over the Go-Hawks’ 383. Decorah placed fifth with 512 strokes.

Make that 18 in a row; Decorah girls track controls NEIC title, boys runner-up

It’s been nearly two decades since the Decorah girls’ track team has given up the Northeast Iowa Conference crown as the Vikes posted 187 points for the title Thursday in New Hampton. The Chickasaws was a distant second with 122 points.
Waverly-Shell Rock took over at the top of the boys’ team standings after Decorah had won the last six titles, but it was a close one. The Go-Hawks tallied 146 points, just ahead of the Vikes’ 140.

SW girls edged by Central for UIC crown

It was a close finish in the girls’ race for the Upper Iowa Conference title Thursday in Guttenberg with Central Elkader skimming by South Winn. The Central Warriors collected 169 points, while South Winn tallied 163. The Trojan girls finished the night with 79 points, good for fifth place.
North Fayette Valley took top honors in the boys’ team standings, ahead of MFL MarMac. South Winn came in third with 109 points, while Turkey Valley collected 65 points to finish sixth.

Viking boys defeat South Tama, Denver

After a five-day hiatus from competition, the Decorah boys soccer team (10-2) competed at the Waverly-Shell Rock tournament Saturday, picking up wins over South Tama (2-7) and Denver (6-5).
The Vikes put in three first-half goals against South Tama for the 3-0 win. Looking to redeem a loss earlier in the season in overtime to Denver, Decorah secured a goal in the first half and added two in the second, while keeping the Cyclones off the board.

Hageman, Baumler medal for SW

The South Winn golf teams got one final chance on the links to finish off the regular season Thursday as the Warriors traveled to the Elkader Golf and Country Club to compete against Central.
Keeping the win streak alive, SW girls edged Central 233 to 240, while the boys dominated the course for the win 174 to 205.

Viking netters roll over Columbus 6-1

Seniors on the Class 1A No. 3 Decorah boys tennis team overwhelmed Waterloo Columbus (0-11) Thursday as the Vikes (12-2) finished up the regular season with a home victory, 8-1.
On Senior Night, seniors Daniel Skrade, Landon Baker, Michael Njus and Carter Kowitz all got singles win, as well as junior Seth Bolson.

Getting tuned up before the postseason, the Decorah girls golf team traveled to Winona Thursday for 18-holes against Winona Senior.
The home team shot a 434 to the Vikes’ 522 with Decorah missing two linksters due to illness.

It was yet another close finish for the Decorah boys golf team Thursday as the Vikings hosted Waverly-Shell Rock at Oneota Golf and Country Club for 18 holes.
The Vikes tallied a 349, getting edged by the Go-Hawks’ 333. Decorah junior Ben Bockman took medalist honors with a 79 (38-41) with Wesley Hubbard of W-SR one-stroke back for runner-up.

Trojan linksters finish regular season at home

The Decorah girls tennis team battled to a 7-2 victory over Waverly Shell-Rock Tuesday, May 1, despite the Go-Hawks putting up a tremendous fight. The Vikes prevailed handling the consistency and powerful serves of their opponents, along with the challenge of high winds, with grit, focus, and determination.

Fourth straight NEIC/WaMac title for Vikes

They did it again.
Since joining the NEIC and WaMac boys tennis teams into a conference tournament in 2019, Decorah has been the only champion and secured their fourth-straight title on another cold, windy, all-day event at Luther College Monday.
Taking part in the conference tournament, the No. 1 players played each other, the No. 2 played each other, and so on. Flighted singles action took place in the morning, with Decorah winning five of the six and placing second in one. In doubles in the afternoon, Decorah won two and finished second in one, winning the team title by nine points over Waverly Shell-Rock.

Warriors take second at home; TV and Decorah compete well in regular season finale

The South Winn track teams hosted the Warrior Invite Monday night, with both finishing runner-up. The boys posted 150 points while the girls had 135 points.
Turkey Valley was on the oval in Calmar taking third in the boys team standings with 68 points and the girls finishing with 71 points in fourth. Decorah also sent its JV boys and a limited girls squad, with the girls taking third with 106 points and boys fourth with 64 points.

Vikings pull out win over Wahlert

It was a thriller at Dubuque Wahlert (1-9) Monday as the Decorah boys soccer team (9-2) picked up the win in a shoot-out, 4-3.
In regulation, Jeramiah Rediske put the lone goal in the back of the net for the Vikes. After two overtime periods and the score tied 1-1, the game came down to a shoot-out between Decorah and the Golden Eagles.

Dugger puts in winning goal in OT

Two postponements and nearly after a month of waiting to play each other, the Decorah and Clayton Ridge girls soccer teams finally met on the pitch Monday in Guttenberg in a game that came down to overtime. The win went to the Vikes, 2-1.

Viking boys shine at MFL MarMac

The Decorah boys track team took the title at the MFL MarMac invite Monday night, securing 160 points and winning nine events. The host Bulldogs were the runner-up with 141 points.
William Hahn was the king of the throwing events, winning both the shot put and discus. In the shot put, the sophomore heaved the weight 40 feet, 11.5 inches for the title and sailed the discus 143 feet, 10 inches.
