Trojans take two at Crestwood

Monday, September 13, 2021 2:00 pm

The Turkey Valley volleyball team (3-6) took to the court at the Crestwood tournament Saturday, coming home with two wins.
“We need to get our offense running a bit stronger and the girls need to get a little more intensity in their play the whole time they are on the court and off. When we saw them with that intensity, they played great, when the intensity was low we tended to play flat,” said Coach Tammy Vrzak. “They are starting to gel together much better the more we get to play. This will be a long week with no matches but look forward to playing next weekend.”

Getting to play two conference opponents in advance of conference play also was a nice way to get a preview of what we will see down the road. Picking up the third set victory over Elkader was also nice momentum for us as we had dropped a couple of deciding sets earlier in the season,” said Coach Alex Smith.

Wednesday, September 1, 2021 4:34 pm

After a successful week one, the Decorah volleyball team (5-0, 0-0 NEIC) hosted Saint Ansgar (1-3) Tuesday, winning 3-2.
Set scores were 25-7, 22-25, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-11.
“This was a challenging match for us to work through as Saint Ansgar is a very scrappy volleyball team. They didn’t let the ball hit the floor and chased down some big plays. One of the biggest take aways from the match was our poor serve receive. We know that the girls know that, and it is something that we will continue to work on,” said Coach Gina Holthaus. “In set two, we also missed some crucial serves. We know that these two things are controllable, and this is where we will focus our time and energy. We didn’t give up or give in, they kept fighting until the very end.”
