With Monday’s conference sweep of West Central (1-10, 0-6 UIC), the Turkey Valley softball team (9-3, 6-0 UIC) is the league leader. The Trojans played two shortened games on the road, defeating the Blue Devils, 15-0 and 12-2.

Getting on the diamond Monday night, the South Winn softball team (9-7, 7-1 UIC) picked up a split at Clayton Ridge (7-13, 3-5 UIC). The Warriors fell short, 3-2, in game one and in the nightcap, SW shut out the Eagles, 10-0 in five frames.

Warriors can’t be budged by Trojans

Tensions were running high Thursday night when South Winn (7-4, 4-2 UIC) hosted the Turkey Valley Trojans (5-8, 5-2 UIC). The front four innings were loaded with South Winn runs, but neither team would let anything through in the final three, ending 9-1 for the Warriors.
Vikings bang out five homers versus Waukon

Closing out the week with a NEIC sweep over Waukon, the Decorah baseball team (9-3, 6-0 NEIC) remains on top of the league. Thursday, the Vikes stepped out of the conference to play Mason City, giving up runs late in the loss.

Playing a conference twinbill at home, the South Winn softball (8-6, 6-0 UIC) picked up two more UIC wins to remain undefeated in league play. The Warriors then took two days to compete in the annual Jesup tournament, going 1-3 in eighth place.

Trojans can’t hold against Waukon

Turkey Valley (5-8, 5-2 UIC) was able to hold on but couldn’t get a solid grip against Waukon (7-5, 2-4 NEIC) at this past Thursday’s home game. The Trojans didn’t give up any runs in the first frame, but five Indian runs in the second set the tone for the rest of the game, which ended 15-8.
Decorah Vikes lead NEIC

While its still fairly early in the 2021 season, the Decorah baseball team (7-2, 4-0 NEIC) continues to pound the ball well and pickup wins, most recently defeating Charles City (5-4, 5-1 NEIC) at home Tuesday night, 9-3.
Lady Warriors cruise past Postville

With a 4-0 conference record, the South Winn softball team (5-3 overall) is one of three teams sitting at the top of the UIC after taking two games from Postville Monday. The Warriors added another tally to the win column with a non-conference victory over Nashua-Plainfield Tuesday.

It looked as if both teams would bend but not break Friday night in Jackson Junction as Turkey Valley (3-2) hosted Decorah (5-3) in non-conference softball action. It took 10 innings for the Trojans to find the power to get the win as Jalyssa Blazek sent the ball over the left field fence for the 5-4 victory.
