Jim Friest nailed his seventh career hole-in-one Friday, May 7 at Oneota Golf & Country Club on hole No. 11. He used an 8 iron from the green tee to send the ball 105 yards.
Decorah Vikings sweep NEIC titles

It was one for the record books Thursday as the Decorah girls’ and boys’ track and field teams not only hosted, but won, the Northeast Iowa Conference meet.
The top four girls’ teams were separated by just 24 points as the Vikings took their 16th consecutive title with 128 points. New Hampton finished second with 116, while Charles City rounded out the top-three with 110.
The Decorah boys ran away with 179 to win their fifth straight conference title, ahead of Waverly-Shell Rock (136) and Charles City (99).
SW boys, NFV girls capture UIC titles

Area teams converged on West Union Thursday to compete in the annual Upper Iowa Conference meet, with the South Winn boys collecting 170 points. North Fayette Valley was the runner-up with 154, followed by MFL MarMac with 129. Turkey Valley garnered 74 points to finish fourth.
By one point it was the NFV claiming the girls’ title with 122 points over Central Elkader. The Trojans’ 106 points earned them sixth, followed by South Winn with 97 points.
Rooney’s goals lift Vikes to win

Thursday’s match between the Decorah girls’ soccer team (5-3) and Union (2-6) was a tale of two halves as the Vikings dominated the first and the Knights took control of the second. When the clock rang out for the final time it was Decorah winning 2-0.

Triangular for Decorah

The Decorah girls’ golf team finished its three-meet week at a triangular at New Hampton Thursday. The Chickasaws posted 385 strokes to win the meet. Oelwein toured the course with 514, one stroke ahead of the Vikings’ 515.

After picking up a big win over Caledonia earlier in the week, the Decorah boys’ golf team circled the Waverly Municipal Golf Course with the Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday. When the last ball fell into the cup it was the hosts coming out with the win 312 to 384.
Trojans break 200-stroke barrier versus WC

Hosting West Central Thursday, the Turkey Valley boys’ golf team defeated the Blue Devils 199 to 230, holding the team score under 200 for the first time this season. West Central does not have a girls’ golf team this year, so the TV girls did not play.

Jay Fjelstul, a 2020 graduate of Decorah High School, and a freshman on the Luther College golf team, recently earned all-conference honors at the American Rivers Conference Championships.
Decorah girls, SW boys take invite titles

The South Winn track teams hosted the Warrior Invite Monday night.
The boys posted 268 points to take first, while the girls had 78 points to take third. The Decorah girls ran away with the girls’ title garnering 194 points. The Vikings sent their JV boys’ team to Calmar, taking fifth with 34. The Trojan girls collected an even 100 points in second. The Trojan boys were the runner-up with 92 points.

Decorah soccer survives Cyclones in PKs

The Decorah girls’ soccer team (4-3) started Monday’s game with energy, keeping Denver’s (4-3) defense under steady pressure for the first several minutes of the game. After regulation and two overtimes, the two squads remained deadlocked at 1-1, leaving the teams to battle it out with penalty kicks. When the dust settled it was the Vikings claiming the victory 3-1.

After a two-week postponement the Turkey Valley and South Winn golf teams squared off in a conference dual Tuesday at Jackson Heights Golf Course, with the Trojan girls and Warrior boys coming out on top.
Decorah defends home court against W-SR

It was a convincing shutout Tuesday for the Decorah girls’ tennis team over Waverly-Shell Rock, 9-0.
Fresh from their conference championship on Saturday, the Vikes again asserted their control right from the first groundstroke. With the weather conditions much more conducive to good tennis play after Saturday’s wild weather, every Decorah varsity player won their singles and doubles matches.

The Decorah boys’ track team took the title at the MFL MarMac invite Monday night.
The Vikes secured 10 gold medals and 191 points to take the crown.

Packing up the clubs Tuesday night, the Decorah boys’ golf team defeated Caledonia 184 to 203 at Ma Cal Grove Golf Course.

It was a split for the South Winn golf teams versus MFL MarMac at South Winn Golf and Country Club Monday night.
The girls were victorious 241 to 262, while the boys fell 186 to 191.
