The Decorah girls tennis team walked onto the courts ready to play on Tuesday. Knowing that Aplington-Parkersburg would provide tough competition, and they embraced the challenge, ultimately defeating A-P, 9-0.

Warrior golfers split with NFV

Getting back on the course with a little better weather than last week, the South Winn golf teams competed at Pleasant Valley Sports Club in Clermont Monday, battling North Fayette Valley.
The boys fired a 178, winning by 10 strokes over NFV’s 188.

Warriors prep for UIC meet

Finally getting back on the oval with Mother Nature cooperating Tuesday, the South Winn boys track team competed in Osage, finishing seventh in the team standings with 37 points. Clear Lake was crowned the team champion with 159 points.
Contending against some bigger schools, the Warriors best finish was a silver claimed by Kaden Bullerman in the 400-meter hurdles. The senior crossed the finish line in 1:00.65.

Trojan boys shore up score

On yet another cold, windy night, the Turkey Valley boys and girls golf teams came away with a split against Postville on Monday. Tuesday the Trojan boys were back on the course in a triangular with New Hampton and Sumner-Fredericksburg.

Busy start to week for TV track teams

It was a pair of back-to-back nights of competition for the Turkey Valley girls and boys track teams as the Trojans were at Sumner-Fredericksburg Monday, then traveled to Clayton Ridge for a second coed meet Tuesday night.

Viking linksters improving

Hosting Crestwood, the Decorah boys golf team came up eight strokes short, 167 to 159, at Silvercrest Golf Club Monday.
Medalist of the meet was Crestwood’s Cade Bergan shooting 36 on the par-36 course. Runner-up medalists with 39s were Lane Rolfs of Decorah and Cole Butikofer of Crestwood.

The Decorah girls soccer team (2-5) was back in action with back-to-back matches on the road. Monday, the Vikes were at Denver, then went to Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday.

Wind doesn’t stop SW, TV linksters

It sure didn’t feel like spring Thursday night as the South Winn golf teams hosted Turkey Valley at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club in Ossian in a varsity only meet.
The area teams battled strong winds and cold temps with the wind chill hovering near 30 degrees with South Winn sweeping the meet.

Trojan boys second at Kee

Against strong gusts of wind and temperatures hovering in the 40s, the Turkey Valley track teams competed well at the Gary Bottorf Invite hosted by Kee Thursday.
The Trojan boys finished second with 65 points behind team champion MFL MarMac who posted 120 points. In the girls’ team race, the Trojans tallied 78 points to finish third. Waukon won the meet with 145 points, followed by the hosts with 87.

Less than ideal conditions

With outstanding efforts in less than ideal weather conditions, the Decorah girls track team finished second in the team standings at the Wahawk Invite in Waterloo Thursday. The Viking finished the night with 131 points with Cedar Falls taking the team title with 156.50 points.

Vikes grab two more wins

The No. 14 Decorah boys soccer team moved to a 6-1 record with back-to-back wins to close out last week.
Thursday, the Vikes were at Waverly-Shell Rock and picked up a 2-0 win over the Go-Hawks (3-4). Both goals were scored by Jake Magner as he took three shots on the goal. In all, the Vikes had all 12 of the shots on goal in the match. Aside from Magner’s three, Jimmy Valdez had two, Jeramiah Rediske had two and Ian Giddings had two. With one each were Brady Benzing, Peter Essa and Franklin Lesmeister. Junior Caleb Meyer stood in goal for Decorah.

No. 2 Viking netters top ranked opponents

The second-ranked Decorah boys tennis team (8-2) finished a tough two-week stretch where the Vikes played eight duals in 13 days by competing against No. 10 Waverly-Shell Rock (5-3) immediately followed by No. 5 Boone (12-2) Friday.
It was another cold and windy day, with an early morning to travel to Waverly for a 9 a.m. start, where things started slowly but the team quickly warmed up and came away with a 7-2 team victory over the Go-Hawks, led by the trio of experienced Vikings at the top of the order in Caden Branum, Daniel Skrade and Landon Baker as well as a late addition to the singles lineup at No. 6 in Gabe Hiner due to an injury. In doubles play the Vikings came out fast and aggressive.

Decorah boys win Indian Relays

After Monday’s Decorah Relays were wiped out by a snowstorm, the Decorah boys track team braved the cold and windy conditions Friday at the Indian Relays hosted by Waukon.
“I was proud of the guys, as they showed real grit and determination in the difficult conditions. It was nice to get the chance to compete again,” said Coach Joel Rollinger.
The Vikes had a strong day on the oval, posting 160 points to take the team title, Waukon claimed second with 149 points.

Bulldogs edge SW golfers

The South Winn golf teams not only had to battle MFL MarMac on the links Friday, but the Warriors also fought a second day in a row of wind and cold temps. In the end, both squads fell to the Bulldogs at Tri City Golf and Country Club near Luana.

Vikes headed to Drake Relays

The Decorah girls and boys track teams will be well-represented at the Drake Relays held Thursday through Saturday, April 27-29, in Des Moines.
It starts with senior Julia Alberts competing in the discus Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Wind, temps prevail for linksters

The Decorah boys golf team competed at the Manchester Golf Invitational Friday with the wind and cold conditions making the day very challenging for the Vikings.
Solon had the low team score of the day with 323 with West Delaware the runner-up with 326. Medalist of the meet was Carter Lamont with a one over par 73 from Vinton. Runner-up with a 74 was Pella’s AJ Hoekstra.

Cold weather can’t stop Vikes

The large Decorah girls track team split in two Tuesday night, with part of the team at Charles City and another group at Crestwood.

Champions at CC
Athletes who were at Charles City put on quite a show collecting 191 points and besting the field of eight teams.
“We had some good performances and several events ran seasons best,” noted Coach Cristy Nimrod.
In all the Vikings had 10 events take first.

Eight goals lead to win over NH

There was no lack of offense for the Decorah boys soccer team (4-1) as the Vikes put another tally in the win column after defeating New Hampton (4-5) at home Tuesday, 8-0.
A hat trick (3 goals) by Jake Magner led the Vikes to the victory to go with one assist. Ian Giddings, Jimmy Valdez and Jeramiah Rediske all had a goal and assist as well with senior Benson Newhouse scoring his second goal in as many games. Easton Luzum scored the final goal for Decorah.

DHS netters produce 6-3 win

On a chilly but sunny Tuesday afternoon, the Decorah girls tennis team battled the Osage Green Devils for the second time this season; and, for a second time, the Vikings emerged victorious, beating Osage 6-3.
Highlights of the evening included Annalise Skrade giving up only one game at No. 1 singles, Olivia Huinker leaving the courts shortly after with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 singles, Camryn Holland earning a bagel with an 8-0 victory at No. 4 singles, and freshman Addie Maki not only playing her first varsity match but earning her first varsity win at No. 6 singles, finishing 9-8 (7-5) in an epic battle that ended with a tiebreaker.

Vikes enjoy sun and good play

With the recent snow melting and sun shining, the Decorah boys tennis team hosted a depleted Winona Senior team which graduated most of last year’s team Tuesday coming away with a 9-0 win.
“I was pleased with overall effort after prom and the attitude the team brought against a young opponent,” said Coach Matt Anderson.

The Vikings are in Waverly Friday, April 21, playing the Go-Hawks and Boone in a triangular at 2 p.m.
