Vikes claim first at Waukon’s early bird meet

The Decorah boys’ track and field team felt the heat Thursday despite the cool temps. Vying for the top spot with the Vikings was Denver, with Decorah coming out on top of the Waukon Early Bird meet with 155 points, while the Cyclones finished with 149 points.
Area harriers run at Frostbite Open

For the first time in nearly two years, harriers stepped on to a track to compete as teams from Decorah, South Winn and Turkey Valley competed Frostbite Open at Sumner-Fredericksburg Tuesday night.

DHS netters feature young, untested talent

Winning the first-ever conference tournament in 2019, the Decorah boys’ tennis team is looking to defend its title in 2021, after the pandemic ended the 2020 season almost before it began.
However, it will be new faces taking the court this season, with just two returning letter winners on the roster.
Core group of seniors to lead DHS girls

The foundation is set for Decorah girls’ soccer team, all that is needed is the weather to cooperate so they can get time on the field.
The Vikings feature eight letter winners and a host of other athletes ready to put together a winning season after last season was cancelled.
Motivating the team will be fourth-year head coach Loren Hendrickson.
SW girls ready for unknowns

Without last year to go on, it’s hard to know how teams will stack up against each other on the track, but the South Winn girls’ track and field team is looking forward to the opportunity to compete.
Veteran talent and experience in middle- and long-distance races, the Warriors will be looking to fill out the entire line-up in order to compete for a conference title.

The key to a successful 2021 season is in the hands of any promising Decorah boys track and field athlete as veteran head coach Joel Rollinger and his staff get set to fill out a competitive line-up. In his 22nd year at the helm, Rollinger will be aided by assistant coaches Bill Post, Dale Wilharm and Jeff Wettach.
Warriors to rely on other sports’ success and experience

The last time the South Winn boys’ track and field team competed was nearly two years ago, with five events competing at state after the Warriors were the Upper Iowa Conference runners-up.
While the Warriors weren’t able to see what last season would have brought when COVID-19 shut down spring activities, South Winn has seen quite the success in other athletic programs in the past year.
