By Becky Walz,
The flawless season is still intact for the Decorah volleyball team (7-0, 1-0 NEIC) after defeating North Fayette Valley last week and downing Crestwood in the conference opener Tuesday.
NEIC action
On the road Tuesday night, Decorah had a dominating performance against Crestwood (1-3, 0-1 NEIC) in the Northeast Iowa Conference match to win 3-0. Set scores were 25-18, 25-12 and 26-24.
“We played well at times, and at other times we struggled to play our game. I give Crestwood a lot of credit as they pushed us out of our comfort zone a little and scrambled in the back row to keep the ball alive,” said Coach Gina Holthaus. “Crestwood also stayed aggressive at the net. In the third set, we were down late in the game and had to battle back into it and to finish the match. Our serve-receive other than set three was fairly consistent.”
Amelia Dugger continued to have an imposing presence on the court with 10 kills, four digs, three solo blocks and five ace serves in her 14-for-14 serving mark. Equally notable was Chloe Reiser’s performance with seven kills, seven digs as she went 12-for-14 with four aces. Mara Holland handed out 26 assists and was 14-for-14 at the serving stripe. Leading the Vikes in digs with nine was Gossman who also had three kills, a solo block and went 6-for-8 in serving.

Catching up
Mixing up the line-up in a non-conference match, the Vikes dominated the net Thursday at North Fayette Valley (1-1, 1-0 UIC) to remain undefeated. Set scores were 25-16, 25-14 and 25-14 in Decorah’s win.
“We were able to mix up our line-up a bit and get some other people on the floor which is always nice. We passed better than we did earlier in the week but will continue to be a work in progress for us,” said Coach Holthaus. “We want to congratulate Mara Holland who recorded her 500th career assist last night in set one. We are looking for more great assists from her as the year continues.”
Decorah had 38 kills and 53 digs. Amelia Dugger pounded down a team-high 10 kills, with Ashley Schneberger hammering out nine. Annika Franzen provided another seven. Holland dished out 28 assists for the night to go with 13 digs and a 13-for-14 serving performance. Chloe Reiser nabbed 14 digs and was 16-for-16 in serving with a trio of aces.
