The South Winn baseball team (1-1) picked up their first win on the season, 2-0, Tuesday evening defeating Janesville (2-4) in a pitcher’s duel.
The Warrior had opportunities early to score but couldn’t get the big hit to put a number in the runs column. Parker Timp drove in Carson Streeter on a two-out single in the fifth to gain the lead and Cody Meyer drove in Braiden Todd to score the second run in the sixth inning. A hard luck line drive triple play ended the inning to keep the game within reach for Janesville, but Todd and Timp got it down on the mound in the seventh to earn the victory.
The Warriors pitched by committee with four guys combining for the shut out. Braiden Todd picked up the win in relief with Parker Timp recording the final out to earn the save.
South Winn had eight hits in the contests with Timp leading the offensive charge by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI. Brody Tieskoetter also went 2-for-3, with Streeter, Meyer, Nolan Sabelka and Eric Greve also connecting for one hit.
“It is always nice to get that first win of the season and I thought we made some good progress in all facets from our first game. Our pitchers really established themselves and it is encouraging to see we really should have some strong pitching depth once we get to our busy weeks. Offensively we really weren’t far off from having a big night and hopefully that can happen as soon as Thursday when we head to Target Field to take on Kee High,” said Coach Alex Smith.
