Non-conference
The Warriors came out on the short end, 3-0, in the non-conference matchup on Thursday at Crestwood (1-2). In three highly contested sets, the Cadets proved to have just enough to complete the sweep. In the third set, South Winn had an 18-13 lead but was unable to hold on as Cresco rallied to tie the set at 20-20 and secured the win on the night scoring five of the next six points. Set scores for the night were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21 in favor of the Cadets.
Morgan Kleve led the way with seven kills, followed by Katrina Hageman with five and Abby Wagner with four for the Warriors. Hailey Riehle dished out 11 assists and Avery Luzum had 10. Wagner led the way with nine digs and K. Hageman with eight. At the service area, Luzum was 11-for-11 with an ace, followed by Wagner going 11-for-12 with an ace.
“We knew going in this was going to be a matchup we would be very competitive with. Outside of short momentum runs by Cresco of 4-5 points, we hung right with them, and each set could have gone either way. We continued to show some really nice flashes offensively and our adjustments defensively were better throughout the match as well,” said Coach Alex Smith.
