Saints stop Trojans — again

For the second year in a row the Turkey Valley volleyball team (17-16) ended its season at the hands of Saint Ansgar (18-9) on the road, 3-1, Wednesday night in the regional quarterfinal. The Trojans battled through four tough sets — 15-25, 14-25, 25-19 and 13-25.
“It’s with a heavy heart we ended our season to St. Ansgar. These girls played hard all the way to the end every one of them. Their serving was tremendous with almost 100% accuracy! It was an honor for Jackie (Novotny) and I to get to coach such fantastic girls. Our student body came out in full force and cheered the loudest and proudest of all people in the gym they kept the momentum going and helped the girls keep fire in their play. We want to shout out to Josie (Weber) for breaking the school assist record with more than 1600 assists! What an amazing accomplishment!” exclaimed Co-Coach Tammy Vrzak.
Adriana Tiedt pounded the ball for seven kills and grabbed 12 digs for the Trojans. The sophomore also served 15-for-16. With four kills apiece were Brianna Busta, Kourtney Schmidt and Olivia Drilling. Josie Weber handed out 17 assists to go with 11 digs and a 9-for-9 serving mark. Defensively it was Clare Courtney coming away with 18 digs. She also served 11-for-13 with two aces. Schmidt once again was hot from the serving stripe, going 17-for-17 with one ace.

Saying goodbye
Turkey Valley will graduate six seniors off the squad including Josie Weber, Kourtney Schmidt, Olivia Drilling, Tess Franzen and Olivia Maklenburg.
Despite the leadership that is leaving the Trojans, they will return a tremendous amount of experience in current juniors Brianna Busta, Jacqlyn Schmitt, Clare Courtney and sophomore Adriana Tiedt.
