Season opener; TV shows strong defense

The Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team (0-1, 0-1 UIC0 took the court for the first time in the 2023-24 season Tuesday, falling to Kee (1-0, 1-0 UIC) at home, 52-45.
The Trojans put up a strong effort against the Hawks after trailing by as many as 21 points.
The Red and White kept pace with the visitors in the early going but it was Kee in control 17-12 after the first frame. The Hawks extended their lead to 35-22 by halftime and led 48-27 with eight minutes to play. Finally the Trojans found a rhythm, limiting Kee to four points in the final quarter to get back into the single digits, but 18 fourth-quarter points weren’t enough to pull out the win.
Addison Steinlage drained 11 points to go with six steals and six assists as Alexis Elsbernd came off the bench to drain a trio of three-pointers en route to her 11-point game. Under the basket Delaney Busta and Haylee Hanson pulled down seven rebounds apiece.
The Trojans roll into the season with three games next week, starting as hosts to New Hampton Monday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, Turkey Valley will make the short trip to Calmar to battle South Winn.
