Season opens for Decorah

The Decorah boys’ golf team opened the season Monday at Oneota Golf and Country Club against New Hampton, coming up short 185 to 176.

Viking sophomore Ben Bockman was the co-medalist with New Hampton’s Kyle Glenn as both fired 42s on the par 36 course. Lane Rolf carded a 45, while Jack Knoke shot a 47. Rounding out the varsity scorecard with a 51 was Jon Egan. Other varsity golfers included Ethan Holthaus with a 54 and Brody Hanson with a 57.
The junior varsity was also handed a loss, 201-191. Scoring for the squad was Joe Bockman (47), Braden Darling (52), Gavin Stortz (55), Jackson Pipho (55), Andrew Olson (55), Hunter Quandahl (57), Aaron Busta (58), Kaden Alstad (60), Carter Dlhy (62) and Shane Treangen (63).
The Vikings are scheduled to host at tournament at Oneota Golf & Country Club today (Thursday, April 14) at 1 p.m., then they will travel to Pella for a two-day tournament April 15-16. Next week begins with a triangular with South Winn and Turkey Valley Tuesday, April 19, at Jackson Heights Golf Course at 4 p.m.
