Second win for Lady Warriors

By Becky Walz,

It was a battle all night for the South Winn girls’ basketball team (2-1, 1-1 UIC) after getting down to Postville (0-2, 0-2 UIC) Tuesday night. A solid second half proved to be the tipping point as the Warriors came away with the 47-40 win over the Pirates.
“Postville came out firing on all cylinders, but we kept our composure and trimmed the lead down possession by possession. After a few halftime adjustments on the defensive side, we got some momentum in the second half.”
Trailing 26-19 at the break, South Winn erased the deficit on a 12-1 run through the first four minutes of the third quarter. Postville battled back to stay in the game with a 35-35 knot with eight minutes left to play. However, a 12-point final frame for the Warriors pulled them out front for the win.
SW got a huge night from Morgan Kleve who led the way in scoring with 23 points and five rebounds. Janessa Zweibahmer chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Josie Tieskoetter was active on the boards as well with a team-high 12 rebounds to go with five steals and six points.
The Red and White have two games to go yet this week as the Warriors host West Central Friday, Dec. 3, then take part in the high school Border Battle versus Mabel-Canton. The two squads will face off at 5 p.m., in the Decorah high school gym.
