Senior keglers honored Friday

As the season begins to wind down, the Decorah bowling teams took time to recognize the dedication and leadership of its seniors Friday at home versus Forest City.

As the season begins to wind down, the Decorah bowling teams took time to recognize the dedication and leadership of its seniors Friday at home versus Forest City.
Still in a hunt for a conference championship, the Decorah teams defeated Forest City Friday, moving the boys to a 5-2 record and the girls to 6-1.
The Viking boys bested the visitors 2,914 to 2,644. Baker scores were 182, 145, 232, 218 and 193.
“Take out the one baker game and the boys bowled very well. Team bowling is how you win matches,” said Coach Keith Bruening.
Leading the Viking squad was senior Gavin Sims with scores of 219 and 229, along with Grady Brauer (211, 178) and Brody Anfinson (187, 187). Others on the lanes for Decorah were Cade Averhoff (164, 200), William Marx (139, 216) and Daniel Skrade (193, 175).
The JV boys remained undefeated with Tom Esslemont (418), Nic Rollins (358) and Tyler Shedinger (358) pacing the field.
The Decorah girls edged Forest City by seven pins, 2,531 to 2,524. Baker scores were 148, 171, 176, 179 and 140.
At the forefront of the Decorah girls’ squad was senior Grace Gerleman with games of 200 and 159, along with Rebecca Bruening (215, 140) and Paige Lange (180, 163). Also competing for the Vikes were Sydney Hageman (171, 150), Lily Iverson (150, 189) and Hannah Schnitzler (155, 154).
Also undefeated, the JV girls were led by Audi Marsh (289) and Annika Grinna (286).
The Vikes competed in a rescheduled match with Tripoli Monday, Jan. 24, and those results will be published in the Thursday, Jan. 27, Decorah Public Opinion. The conference tournament will take place Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo, hosted by Columbus Catholic at 10 a.m. The busy week continues with a match at North Iowa Friday, Jan. 28, and a tournament hosted by Independence Saturday, Jan. 29, at Cadillac Lanes at 9 a.m.
